Alkalická aktivace odpadních anorganických materiálu (popílku, strusek, elektrárenského úletu atd.) dává možnost syntézy levných a zároveň i ekologických konstrukčních materiálů podobných portlandskému cementu. The dissertation thesis is oriented towards research into the characteristics of alkali activated materials, mainly towards the characteristics and exploitation of coal-fired power plant fly ash in the construction practice. Fly ash is a waste material arising during the combustion of brown and black coal in power plants. The fly ash from the Opatovice power plant, which represents a sufficiently relevant specimen among all the localities of the Czech Republic in terms of brown coal combustion, was used as a basic material. The exploitation of fly ash undoubtedly has a great potential for the future as it is a waste material whose disposal is not only costly, but also very problematic. The alkali activation of inorganic waste materials (fly ash, slags, power plant silica fumes etc.) provides a possibility of the synthesis of cheap and, at the same time, ecological structural materials similar to Portland cement. In the presented dissertation thesis, fly ash is studied as the basic raw material for the generation of a geopolymer material where this mixture based on alkali activated materials manifests, among others, excellent resistance to the effects of aggressive chemical environments. Although coal-fired power plant fly ash may find its applications in different fields of the building industry, the experimental part of this dissertation thesis focuses primarily on its potential practical utilization in the building production, specifically in re-profiling layers and thin-layer protective covers of building structures.
