The role of the practitioner is to select the most suitable type of contact lenses for his clients. In addition to this, he has to provide a qualified assessment of the anterior segment of the eye, considering the shape and dimensional parameters of cornea as well as the material, shape and optical parameters of available contact lens types. This bachelor thesis deals with properties of soft contact lenses, especially with their shape parameters. It describes the relationship between diameter, curvature of the inner surface and sagittal depth of contact lenses. It shows the average values of the corneal shape parameters of the human eye. It provides an overview of commercially produced lenses currently available on the Czech market and their selected properties. It compares the magnitude of sagittal depth of selected contact lenses given by a calculation of the values provided by the distributors, respectively found in the literature. On a sample of clients from optical practice, this paper shows the importance of calculating the sagittal height of the eye, and at the same time it suggests the ideal relationship between the sagital height of the eye and the sagittal depth of the potentially applied contact lens. For the clients with non-standard parameters of the anterior eye segment, the calculations propose individual solutions. Based on the findings, this presented work then formulates recommendations for contactological practice. As one of the outputs of the work, it was calculated that the sagittal height of the ,,standard cornea" is 3.27 mm (? 0.45 mm). This value is consistent with the data from previous research. Furthermore, it was found that the difference between the sagittal eye height and the sagittal depth of the contact lens should not exceed ? 200 ?m in the correct application. A sample of 20 clients from optical practice has shown that only 71 % of them wear contact lenses that have their sagittal depth in accordance with the sagittal height of the anterior segment of their eye.
