This Diploma thesis deals with the study of microstructure of seven cement composites based on Portland cement, fly-ash and slag. The microstructure was described by electron and optical microscopy. The porosity was measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry and open porosity. Nanoindentation was employed for the characterization of their main hydration products. On each sample a few hundreds of indents were performed. Statistical deconvolution was used to distinguish between the main material phases at microscale. Differences in mechanical response was found and described on pure cement pastes, cements with fly-ash and slag. Portland cement and cements mixed with fly-ash were also compared.eng
