Abstract

This thesis on the topic of security features of banknotes is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, a comprehensive overview of the history and evolution of money is given, exploring the timeline from pre-unit of account era to describing how our current monetary system came to be, also covering counterfeiting and the common methods used through the ages. Towards the end of the theoretical part, attention shifts towards the Czech koruna and the Euro, covering the currencys recent history and examining their banknotes in detail. The practical part then gives an account of common banknote security features, before diving in to highlight where and how they are used on the banknotes, ending with a comparison of the banknotes adoption of the individual features.
