Táto diplomová práca sa zaoberá analýzou vybraných aspektov bezpečnostnej politiky Číny v kontexte jej historického vývoja. Prvá časť tejto diplomovej práce opisuje založenie a následný vývoj Čínskej ľudovej republiky, pričom prezentuje vybrané kľúčové udalosti v jej histórii v kontexte bezpečnostnej a zahraničnej politiky. Následne práca opisuje zahraničnú a bezpečnostnú politiku modernej Číny, pričom v krátkom formáte popíše vzťahy Čínskej ľudovej republiky s inými krajinami. Nakoniec sa posledná časť tejto diplomovej práce pokusí zhrnúť zistené poznatky a spojiť ich do súvislostí s historickým kontextom opísaným v prvej časti tejto práce. This thesis analyses select aspects of Chinese security policy in the context of Chinese historic development. The first part of this thesis talks about the founding and development of the People’s Republic of China, while presenting select key events in its history in the context of its security and foreign policy. These events include relationships and conflicts with other nations, as well as important changes in Chinese strategy and politics. This part of the thesis attempts to show historic context that shaped the future development of Chinese security policy. Next, this thesis looks at the current situation and talks about the ambitions and mindset of the Chinese president Xi Jinping. Then the thesis describes foreign and security policy of modern day China by describing in short format the relationships of China with other countries. Special attention is given to Taiwan, which historically has very troubled relationship with the People’s Republic of China. The research part of this thesis interprets the opinions of select experts on the topic of the possibility of a conflict between the People’s Republic of China and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation by combining them into concrete, common answers. In this part of the thesis we found out that all of the respondents had almost the same opinions regarding the questions about selected aspects of Chinese security policy, as well as possible conflict between China and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. It is believed that this similarity in opinions is due to the fact that all of the respondents were from the countries in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Unfortunately even though Chinese embassies were asked to provide an interview or at least recommend a Chinese respondent, they declined. The results were that all of the respondents share the opinion that a war between the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and China is highly unlikely. However if such a war were to erupt, it is very difficult to estimate who would win. Next we found out that even though a war right now is very unlikely, the situation can change very rapidly thanks to the ever changing situation in Taiwan. If China were to invade the island, it is highly probable that other countries would get directly involved in the conflict. The topic of hybrid warfare was also discussed and in that regard it is important to mention that the People’s Republic of China practices common hybrid warfare strategies such as industrial espionage and cyber warfare. The final part of this thesis attempts to summarize the results of the interviews and connect them to the historic context described in the first part of this thesis.
