The diploma thesis deals with design and testing of a microwave applicator suitable for performing catheter ablation in cardiology. Part of the design is a numerical simulation in the Sim4Life software, in which the dimensions of two types of intracavitary applicators created by modifying the end of the coaxial line were optimized. The first type of applicator formed by a spiral structure is intended for ablation of ventricular arrhythmias. A second applicator in the shape of a flat loop is designed to create lesion around the circumference of the pulmonary vein in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. The designed applicators were tested ex vivo on an agar phantom. Results are the measured values of the reflection coefficient in the frequency band from 2 to 3 GHz and the profile of the SAR values in the phantom taken with an infrared camera. At the working frequency of 2.45 GHz, the reflection coefficient was −16.29 dB for the spiral applicator and −44.33 dB for the flat loop applicator. During the heating of the phantom with a power generator, the required temperature increase was achieved with both applicators. The proposed applicators are therefore suitable to be used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias in terms of efficiency and the shape of the ablation zone.
