The training reactor VR-1 has been using IRT-M class nuclear fuel for over thirty years. The aim of the master's thesis is to assess whether the currently used IRT-4M tubular fuel of the Russian company TVEL can be replaced with MTR-VR plate fuel. In this way, one can free oneself from dependence on asingle supplier of tubular fuel. Neutronic and preliminary thermal-hydraulic safety analysis are performed in the master's thesis, which determine whether the MTR-VR fuel is suitable for replacement at the training reacotr VR-1. The computational codes Serpent and RELAP5 were used for neutronic and thermal-hydraulic analysis.
