An uneven mandibular growth caused by unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) leads to an asymmetry of mandible. The current world standard for diagnostics of condyles is the utilization of bone scintigraphy using a single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) applying diphosphates labelled as radioactive technetium 99mTc. The aim of the thesis is to become acquainted with the disease of mandibular growth and to familiarize with the main treatment schema, which is used to solve the problem utilizing the nuclear medicine. Since no method is established in the Czech Republic nor is a particular method standardized abroad, the other purpose was to introduce possible quantitative methods for evaluating UCH. It was also necessary to familiarize with the main problems arising from evaluating SPECT image in small volumes. These aspects were analysed on phantom studies, which were carried out within the bachelor?s thesis. Based on the experiments, there were chosen the best combinations of acquisition and reconstruction parameters. As a result, using SPECT indicates to be an eligible quantitative method for evaluating the growth activity of the mandible. The most suitable combination of acquisition and reconstruction parameters proved to be the method of acquisition with matrix 128x128, rotation 180 degrees per detector, 64 views per detector, 15 seconds per view, step and shoot mode, noncircular mode in combination with iterative reconstruction OSEM 2D with 8 subsets and 2 iterations with 7 mm Gauss filter.
