Úspornost a energie v architektuře české avantgardy

Abstract

Vztah modernistické avantgardy k energetické úspornosti bývá hodnocen negativně. V konfrontaci s dnešními nároky se zdá, že pro tehdejší architekturu stála na dně priorit. Výzkumy zaměřené na avantgardy některých zemí ale ukazují, že tento vztah byl často složitější. Cílem práce je ověřit, zda to platí pro avantgardu českou, a zjistit, do jaké míry se u ní projevoval či neprojevoval zájem o otázky provozní energetické úspornosti. Výzkum rámcově sleduje témata materiality, prostorového řešení a technologického vybavení stavby. V nich lze nalézt příklady, které negativní pohled podporují. Avantgarda často stavěla na první místo hygienu, jíž byla ochotna energetickou úspornost obětovat. O teorii tepelné techniky se mnohdy zajímala povrchně a nekriticky důvěřovala novým izolačním výrobkům, které se ale ve skutečnosti nemusely osvědčit. Praxe navrhování měla z hlediska provozní energie klíčové nedostatky. Naproti tomu však existovaly i příklady opačné. O řadě témat souvisejících s energií probíhala aktivní debata, k níž některé osobnosti avantgardy samy přispívaly. To se týká například tepelné techniky nebo otázky oslunění. Jindy architekti a architektky kritizovali z hlediska energetické úspornosti práci svých kolegů, a někteří ovládali řemeslo stavebního detailu lépe než jiní. Celkový obraz je rozporuplný, proměnlivý v čase a napříč jednotlivými osobnostmi. Práce tato specifika identifikuje a podrobně popisuje. V pozadí stojí též odlišné dobové nároky na izolační schopnosti a tepelný komfort. Souhrnem by tak stereotypní hodnocení mělo být pozměněno. I když mnoho z kritiky zůstává legitimní, jako celek se avantgarda o energetické problémy zajímala více, než se běžně předpokládá.

The relationship of the Modernist avant-garde toward energy efficiency is often viewed in a negative light. Confronted with today's energy standards, it seems that it stood at the bottom of all priorities. However, research focusing on the avant-gardes of various countries has shown this relationship to often be more complex. The aim of this thesis is to verify whether this holds true for the Czech avant-garde, and to find out to which degree, if any, it concerned itself with the problems of energy performance. Three general layers; the materiality, spatial aspect and technology of buildings are studied. Ample examples confirm the typical negative view. The avant-garde often prioritised hygiene above all else, sacrificing energy performance in the process. The problems of building physics tended to be studied only superficially by the avant-garde, which instead uncritically trusted modern insulation products that in reality could have a lackluster performance. In terms of energy efficiency, Modernist designs suffered from key shortcomings. But contrary examples existed as well. Many of the topics relating to energy efficiency were actively debated by the avant-garde, and several of its members contributed to it. Examples are the problems of building physics and insolation. Other times, architects criticized energetically irresponsible practices of their colleagues, and some were noticeably more capable in the technical side of building design. The picture as a whole is full of contradictions, and varied over time and among different individuals. The thesis identifies and describes these specifics in detail. There is also the question of different demands on buildings and thermal comfort between then and now. Taken together, the stereotypical view should be adjusted. Although many of the raised criticisms remain valid, as a whole the avant-garde was concerned with the issues of energy performance more than is usually assumed.
