Popisuje dispozice půdorysů, materiály, komponenty a fyzikální vlastnosti obálky těch budov. Buildings in Europe are estimated to use up to 40% of the total energy consumption. One third of these buildings consists of objects with a historical or cultural value, of which 20% are built before 1945. Keeping in mind that building envelopes of historical objects have a lower thermal performance than modern buildings since they don’t comply with modern standards, it is expected that they consume a big part of the total energy use. In Czech Republic, 69% of the energy consumption in residential buildings is used for heating while it is 66% in Europe. Based on this, it is clear that the European goal of decarbonization by 2050 can’t be reached without thermal upgrading of the envelopes of historical buildings. The first part of this dissertation describes the typology of residential buildings in Prague from the 19th century presenting the disposition of floor plans, materials, structure, and physical properties of their envelopes. The second part focuses on studies aimed at improving the thermal properties of historical building envelopes. The discussed refurbishments are thermal plaster, internal insulation, modification of historical windows and photovoltaic panels. The next step is documenting a protected residential building from the 19th century in Prague and numerically simulating the energy needed for heating this building after each improvement using the software Energie 2020. The hygrothermal behavior of the internally insulated historical brick walls is then numerically simulated using the software WUFI. The influence of internal insulations on the hygrothermal behavior of wooden beam-heads embedded in the walls is numerically calculated using the software 3D Cube. An estimation of the needed budget is calculated as well as the investment payback period for each improvement. In the last part of the study, the results are discussed from three points of view; the protection of the cultural heritage, the energy consumption needed for heating the object and the profitability of the investment. Results show that energy savings can be reached only by improving the building envelope of historical buildings of this type without a big impact on the cultural heritage. In the studied object, up to 60% energy saving is reached by implementing renovations with a low or medium impact on the cultural value. The results on the studied object show that renovations with a low or medium impact on the cultural value have shorter payback period than renovations with a big impact on the cultural value. Based on the found results, recommendations for future renovations of the residential historical buildings from the 19th century are added to the standard SS-EN 16883:2017, which describes the process for renovations aimed to improve the energy performance of historical buildings. Upgrading the thermal performance of historic buildings is challenging especially when we want to balance improving energy efficiency with protecting the cultural heritage while finding an economically realistic solution for the investor. This thesis tries to find the balance between all these three aspects.
