Recenze rodinných domů v architektonických časopisech

Abstract

Tématem disertační práce je úroveň kritiky v tuzemských architektonických časopisech Architekt/Architect+, Stavba a Era21 v období 1993–2022 zkoumaná na příkladu novostaveb rodinných domů. Kritika/hodnocení je jednou z hlavních úloh odborných časopisů. Recenze staveb stanovují měřítka kvality a spoluvytvářejí obraz celé profese, skutečnou pozici architektury ve společnosti ovšem odráží právě výstavba rodinných domů.

Metoda spočívá ve studiu vybraných recenzí a souvisejících textů v architektonických časopisech a další literatuře. První část práce popisuje smysl a hlavní problémy architektonické kritiky, jak je hodnotí příspěvky v samotných časopisech. Druhá část zkoumá metodou kvantitativní analýzy obsah recenzí, včetně souvislosti s obecnými problémy architektonické kritiky, a navrhuje typologii textů.

Z publikovaných recenzí je zjevné, že role kritiky není přesně definována a směšuje se s teorií. Obsah textů odpovídá profesi recenzentů, často historiků umění. Hodnocení brání i výběrový charakter časopisů, obsahová závislost redakcí na architektech a osobní kontakty v profesní komunitě. V případě rodinných domů kritiku komplikuje jejich individuální charakter a rovněž setkání recenzenta s investory při prohlídce.

Přestože jiné příspěvky zaměřené na rodinné domy přibližují kritéria architektonické kvality, z recenzí se srozumitelné hodnocení vytrácí. Převažuje pohled na stavbu jako umělecké/výtvarné dílo, uživatelská hlediska jsou často opomíjena. Většina recenzí domy pouze popisuje nebo se zabývá jinými tématy, celkové hodnocení architektonického návrhu přináší pouze přibližně čtvrtina zkoumaných textů.

Principy publikační praxe v časopisech změnit nelze, přesto může k vyšší kvalitě architektonické kritiky přispět vzdělávání a také lepší podmínky pro recenzenty a z nich plynoucí větší redakční nároky na obsah a úroveň textů.

The topic of the dissertation is the level of criticism in the local architectural magazines Architekt/Architect+, Stavba and Era21 in the period 1993–2022, studied on the example of new single-family houses. Criticism/assessment is one of the main tasks of professional magazines. Building evaluations set quality standards and help shape the image of the profession as a whole, but it is the construction of houses that reflects the actual position of architecture in society.

The method consists of studying selected reviews and related texts in architectural magazines and other literature. The first part of the dissertation describes the meaning and main problems of architectural criticism as they emerge texts in the magazines themselves. The second part examines the content of the reviews, including their relation to the general problems of architectural criticism, by means of quantitative analysis and proposes a typology of texts.

The published reviews show that the role of criticism is not well defined and is confused with theory. The content corresponds to the profession of the reviewers, often art historians. The selective nature of the magazines, the content dependence of editors on architects, and contacts in the professional community also complicate evaluation. In the case of single-family houses, their individual character and also the meeting of the reviewer with the investors during the inspection further complicate the critique.

Other texts dealing with single-family houses approach the criteria of architectural quality, but a comprehensible evaluation is not present in the reviews. The prevailing view considers the building as a work of art, and the user aspects are often neglected. Most reviews merely describe the houses or deal with other issues; only about one quarter of the texts provide an overall assessment of the architectural design.

The principles of publishing practice cannot be changed, but a higher quality of architectural criticism can be achieved through training and better conditions for reviewers, leading to higher editorial demands on the content and level of the texts.
