In this dissertation, an experimental investigation of materials under unusual conditions is presented from the point of view of the preparation of samples, tools, and the necessary test equipment, which must either be significantly modified compared to their original commercially available version, or completely new equipment must be constructed with regard to reduction of requirements for hard-to-find components and with regard to the overall cost minimization. The development of new test methods is related to the development and testing of a new material, which is the textile concrete with non-woven polypropylene fabric, and with the acquisition of data needed for the validation of simulations, numerical models, and non-destructive testing methods in the field of research of the effect of ionizing radiation on concrete. The developed textile concrete was investigated in terms of production technology and mechanical properties. Due to its tendency to create multiple microcracks, it was used successfully in the field of research of the crack self-healing. An automated evaluation of the results for the experiment was also designed. The research of the effect of ionizing radiation on concrete focuses mainly on the new numerical models for predicting the quality of concrete structures without the use of destructive testing. In order to verify and validate the currently being developed non-destructive methods for concrete evaluation, test samples were produced when microstructure of concrete corresponds to different levels of concrete degradation due to irradiation. In addition, test equipment and tools were designed to determine the effect of ionizing radiation on the creep and shrinkage of cement mortar and for assessment of the bond between reinforcing bar and irradiated concrete. A production technology for rock samples intended for the examination of volumetric changes of aggregates due to irradiation was also developed. In order to verify the properties of the concrete mixture, a 4.6meter high functional sample was made. The formwork was made with a plexiglas wall for visual inspection of the mixture homogeneity. The design of a electronic control system of the high-temperature furnace and the development of the climatic wind tunnel are also presented. It can be stated that the research work within this dissertation served, besides providing applicable results, as a motivation for understanding the deeper context whose comprehension is necessary for defining new testing methods and designing new testing equipment intended for application in rare conditions.
