Catheter navigation system for RFA liver ablation: This bachelor thesis deals with a numerical feasibility study of a method for detecting the exact position of a catheter in the ablation treatment of hepatocellular carcinomas using an ultra-wideband (UWB) radar system and the subsequent implementation of a numerically optimized system. The introduction to the current state briefly describes the issues related to navigation technologies in medicine and the issue of microwave imaging. The methods are divided into two parts, the first of which is dedicated to the numerical feasibility study itself. Special attention is paid to the description of the principle of detection of both the distance and the position of the displayed object using radar, on the basis of which an algorithm is created in the MATLAB environment. The second part deals with various aspects related to the implementation of the experimental model. The proposed reconstruction algorithm processed data from numerical simulations and measurements to create a graphical representation of the position of the ablation catheter. Two methods for determining the accuracy of the display designed by the system, which processed the outputs of the reconstruction algorithm, were developed. The average accuracy determined by the method of the number of maxima in the area of the catheter with the extended area was ϑ = 53,2 % for the homogeneous anthropomorphic model, ϑ = 62 % for the heterogeneous model and ϑ = 34,67 % for the experimental homogeneous model. The average accuracy was also determined by the method of the average point (maximum) to line (the catheter axis) distance, within which the values for the homogeneous anthropomorphic model d = 4,69±1,33 mm, for the heterogeneous model d = 3,64±1,15 mm and for the experimental homogeneous model d = 6,13±0,66 mm. The results of simulations with a homogeneous model indicate the suitability of using the frequency band 1 - 6 GHz. In the discussion and conclusion, the achieved results are verbally evaluated.
