This thesis aims to investigate the possibility of using artificial neural networks as part of a model reference adaptive system for estimation of the induction motor parameters to improve the quality of vector control. The main objective is to estimate the rotor and stator resistance of the motor and possibly the mechanical angular velocity. In the first chapter, a brief introduction to neural networks is presented. This is followed by a chapter mainly focused on the mathematical description of an induction motor. Then, the theory of vector control follows. Next, the last part of the drive is described, namely the voltage-source inverter with space vector modulation. Then, in the next section, the model of the whole drive for the parameter estimation in MATALB/Simulink environment is explained. The thesis is then concluded by a presentation of the simulated results, including their critical evaluation.
