This thesis deals with MTPA (Maximum Torque Per Ampere) strategies in electric drives with induction motors. These strategies are used in order to achieve minimum current or alternatively minimum losses for the required motor torque. In the first part of this paper, the design, working principle and mathematical model of an induction motor are described. Next, the thesis deals with a two-level voltage–source inverter with space vector modulation and field–oriented control. MTPA strategies – Search Control method, Maximum Torque Per Ampere method and Loss Minimization Control method are then presented. Then, algorithms for optimizing the behavior of MTPA methods during transient processes are described. The second part of the paper presents the implementation of the induction motor model, voltage–source inverter, field–oriented control and two selected MTPA strategies and algorithms for optimizing their behavior during transients in MATLAB Simulink. The paper concludes with the simulation results of the implemented models, which demonstrate the principle of field–oriented control, the principle of MTPA strategies and the problem of using these strategies during transient events, especially when the motor is loaded with a load torque close to the nominal motor torque. The results of the simulations are commented and compared with each other in the paper.
