NALEZENÍ IDEÁLNÍHO MÍSTA A NÁVRH BUDOVY I OKOLÍ NÁRODNÍ KNIHOVNY

Abstract

Město se stává skanzenem určené turistům. Potřebuje restrukturalizovat. Knihovna má potenciál mobilizovat své okolí a vyčistit jej od nefungujících struktur. Ideálním územím se stává dopravní propast mezi historickým centrem Prahy, Karlína a nábřeží řeky. Dříve zde stály hradby, dnes je obklopena silnicemi, hotelový komplexem Hilton a kancelářemi. Vybírám signifikantní postavení hotelu Hilton a přetvářím tento symbol krátkodobého pobytu na veřejnou funkci každodenně sloužící obyvatelům města.

The city has become a museum, just another tourist attraction. There is actual need for its restructuring. The national library as an institution has the potential to mobilize its own surrounding and clear it from unfunctional structures. It seems that ideal location for national library is a traffic gap in between the historical city of Prague, Karlín district and riverfront of Vltava. A former place of mediaeval city walls is enclosed by dense traffic and new development of offices. I chose a significant location of the hotel Hilton and I am recreating this symbol of luxury consumption and shortterm tourist invasion to the public function which serves to all the people of Prague
