The bachelor's thesis is focused on the description of severe accidents of light water reactors. The description is focused on light water reactors, with details focused on the VVER-1000 and VVER-440 reactors. The work is divided into 5 chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the description of the construction of light water reactors and their fuel systems. The following chapter deals with the processes that can lead to the development of a light water reactor accident. In the third chapter, the courses of basic types of accidents are discussed. The fourth chapter is devoted to a detailed analysis of temperatures that can be considered significant in the study of severe accidents. In the last chapter of this work, the degradation of the fuel rod, which could occur in an RIA type accident, is clarified with the help of a thermohydraulic computer code FRAPTRAN.
