Loop distribution systems have high reliability and power quality comparing with the radial substations but they can face different faults which will cause a lot of problems related to reliability and power quality for part of the grid. The effects of these faults are related to the location of them. On the other hand, the increased use of renewable energy sources in the smart grids especially wind and solar energy makes the Distributed Generation (DG) units are a main part of the modern grids. These DG units can play a big role in the improvement of power quality so it is very substantial to control these units and find the ideal place and manner of connection. This paper studies how the fault location can affect the voltage and power losses values in loop distribution system and how the DG units can face these effects. A loop distribution system has been developed in the MATLAB/Simulink Environment with different locations of faults and different cases of DG unit positions.
