Adaptive Reuse of Stadion Strahov - A Center for High Performance Athletes

Abstract

Tento projekt zkoumá, jak mohou architektonické intervence a strategie adaptivního opětovného použití předefinovat stadion jako multidisciplinární sportovní centrum, které zahrnuje nejmodernější tréninková zařízení a zotavovací centra, výzkumné laboratoře a multisportovní arény. Integrace veřejných a komunitně orientovaných prostor navíc zajišťuje, že revitalizace prospívá nejen elitním sportovcům, ale slouží také místním sportovním organizacím, studentům a rekreačním uživatelům a podporuje inkluzivnější a udržitelnější městský rozvoj. Prostřednictvím architektonické analýzy, programového plánování a případových studií úspěšně přestavěných stadionů si tato práce klade za cíl demonstrovat životaschopnost přeměny Strahovského stadionu na globálně konkurenceschopné HPC, které je v souladu se sportovními ambicemi České republiky a mezinárodními osvědčenými postupy ve sportovní architektuře. Výzkum se bude také zabývat strukturálními, funkčními a ekologickými výzvami a navrhne designové řešení, které zachová historickou integritu stadionu a zároveň jej připraví na budoucnost pro moderní atletickou dokonalost. V konečném důsledku se tato studie snaží umístit Strahov jako mezník adaptivního opětovného využití, který nově definuje roli megastruktur v současné městské krajině.

This project explores how architectural intervention and adaptive reuse strategies can redefine the stadium as a multi-disciplinary sports hub, incorporating state-of-the-art training facilities and recovery centers, research laboratories, and multi-sport arenas. Additionally, the integration of public and community-oriented spaces ensures that the revitalization not only benefits elite athletes but also serves local sports organizations, students, and recreational users, fostering a more inclusive and sustainable urban development. Through architectural analysis, programmatic planning, and case studies of successfully repurposed stadiums, this thesis aims to demonstrate the viability of converting Strahov Stadium into a globally competitive HPC, aligning with both Czech Republics sporting ambitions and international best practices in sports architecture. The research will also address structural, functional, and environmental challenges, proposing a design solution that preserves the historical integrity of the stadium while future-proofing it for modern athletic excellence. Ultimately, this study aspires to position Strahov as a landmark of adaptive reuse, redefining the role of mega-structures in contemporary urban landscapes.
