dc.description.abstractThe paper presents experiences and particular contributions of physical and numerical modelling of gated spillways to safety and reliability of hydraulic structures gained during an extensive experimental programme. The first part presents physical model of Římov Dam which was subjected to stricter demands regarding the control flood wave return period. The model, which includes relevant part of the dam, gated spillway with three sections and chute, allowed for design of economically optimal construction measures that were necessary for safe discharge of control flood with 10000 year return period. The main part is focused on examples of physical and numerical models of gated spillways as a part of extensive experimental programme devoted to reliability of gated emergency spillways during flood events. The models and their general contributions are presented and briefly discussed.eng
