The paper is focused on improvement of hydraulic conditions in high shaft spillways due to spiral flow enforcement. It presents results from 1:20 scale physical model of complete structure of high circular shaft spillway equipped with different arrangements of pro-vortex structures at the circular intake section (shape, numbers). The effect of spiral flow in the shaft is commented from the pressure fluctuations, overall capacity and stability of the flow conditions point of view. Pressure fluctuations were measured in the shaft and along the outlet tunnel with high frequency probes. The influence of the shape of the bend between the shaft and the outlet tunnel together with flow regime in the outlet tunnel on the pressure fluctuations is evaluated. Comparison with axial flow without pro-vortex vanes is also provided in the paper.
