The dissertation is focused on the preparation of experiment and analysis of the results achieved on the COMPASS tokamak in the field of runaway electron research. The electrons accelerated up to the relativistic energies may be generated in tokamaks as a consequence of the sudden discharge termination – a disruption, or in the situations with too low plasma density. Diagnostic methods, experimental observations, and certain applications of numerical models on the COMPASS data are summarised in the thesis and brief comparison to the JET tokamak runaway electron results is included. The main original contribution is the use of the relativistic modification of the magnetic equilibrium of the beam/plasma in the tokamak for the estimate of the beam kinetic energy and the improvement of the position control of the beam.
