This diploma thesis focuses on the modelling of several thermally stratified problems in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). Navier-Stakes equations in Boussinesq aproximation are used to model the flow in ABL and anumber of finite volume method based numerical schemes together with algorithms SIMPLE or PIMPLE solve the problem numerically. OpenFOAM is used to carry out the numerical simulation. OpenFOAM properties are analysed on these following tasks. The first simulation studies the movement of a hot air bubble and of a cold air bubble in neutrally stratified athmosphere. The impact of the use of different numerical schemes as well as the mesh step size are analyzed in this task. The influence of the stratification on the movement of the bubbles tested in the second task. The last task models thermally conditioned convection over differently heated Earth surface.
