Abstract
This thesis focuses on research and optimalisation of rare-earth fluorides luminescence. The theoretical part includes literature review on nanoparticles synthesis including the synthesis of rare-earth fluorides and overview of their properties; it also investigates possible future nanoparticle applications in X-PDT. The experimental part includes rare-earth fluorides preparation via sol-gel method with different solvents and reaction conditions. Processes occurring during the simultaneous thermal analysis were identified. RTG diffraction analysis was used to investigate the crystallinity and purity of the fluorides as well as to determine the size of crystallites. Dynamic light scattering technique was used to determine particle size distribution. Radioluminescent spectra were measured to study luminescent properties of the fluorides. Finally, transmission electron microscopy was performed to study their structure.
