The presented master´s thesis deals with the insufficiently understood topic of warping torsion within reinforced concrete members with a solid cross-section, which usually is not even mentioned in existing standards for structural design. Warping torsion of concrete structures is often considered as negligible or even irrelevant. The following thesis subjects these simple and generally unproven conclusions to objestive and critical analysis. In the opening of this paper, the basic theory of St. Venant and warping torsion is presented, supplemented by the mathematical theory of differential equations, which describes these two types of torsion. Then, the types of stresses developed within the solid cross-sections caused by St. Venant and warping torsion are described as well as the resuling principal stresses. The state of existing main international standards is described primarily within the context of St. Venant torsion design because there are almost no provisions for the design of members under warping torsion. In the following part of this work, a linear analysis of the warping torsion is performed using the knowledge from the theoretical part. The results are presented in the form of rotation, relative twist, torsional moments and stresses along the beam for selected boundary conditions, cross-sections and types of loading. The principal stress is determined from the individual stress components and is then compared with the results of the linear numerical calculation in the FEM software ATENA Science. The nonlinear analysis of the warping torsion represents the most extensive part of this thesis. The FEM software ATENA Science is used for the computations. The numerical model is based on the results of the sensitivity study and comparison with the results of experimental studies obtained from the scientific literature. The results of nonlinear computations and their comparison with code-based calculations are presented and evaluated in detail. Finally, a parametric study is presented, which examines the influence of selected parameters on the torsional resistence of members under St. Venant and warping torsion.
