Abstract

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá návrhem funkční transformace stávajícího objektu autobusových garáží Westbourne Park Bus Station v Londýně. Cílem projektu je revitalizace technicky zastaralé stavby a její proměna na multifunkční komunitní centrum, které kombinuje galerii, foodcourt, veřejné prostory a nástavbu s byty a ateliéry. Návrh staví na zachování původní stavby a navazuje tak na odkaz jejího autora, architekta Clifforda Culpina. Místo demolice je zvolena strategie adaptace, která ctí materiálovou podstatu objektu i jeho industriální charakter. Projekt tím zároveň reaguje na myšlenky hnutí Arts and Crafts podporuje komunitu umělců, architektů a řemeslníků, kteří v prostoru nejen žijí a pracují, ale také se navzájem inspirují a obohacují. Kulturní centrum jim poskytuje zázemí pro spolupráci a sdílený růst. Z urbanistického hlediska je návrh založen na principech tzv. 15minutového města vytváří prostředí, kde jsou v docházkové vzdálenosti propojeny funkce bydlení, práce i volného času. Důraz je kladen na přirozený pohyb obyvatel, komunitní zahrady, sdílení veřejného prostoru a využívání místních zdrojů.

This diploma thesis focuses on the architectural and functional transformation of the existing Westbourne Park Bus Station in London. The project aims to revitalise a technically outdated structure and convert it into a multifunctional community centre combining a gallery, food court, public spaces, and a new rooftop extension with apartments and artists studios. Rather than demolishing the original structure, the design preserves and adapts it, building on the legacy of the original architect, Clifford Culpin. This approach respects the material and industrial character of the building while embracing the principles of the Arts and Crafts movement, fostering a living community of artists, architects, and craftspeople who not only share the space but also collaborate and grow together. From an urban perspective, the proposal is grounded in the concept of the 15-minute city, integrating living, working, and leisure within walking distance. The design emphasises community interaction, shared public space, urban gardening, and the use of local resources, creating a vibrant urban island that strengthens local identity and supports the growth of a sustainable and self-sufficient community.
