Abstract
This thesis deals with the improvement of gypsum resistance to moisture by precipitation of insoluble salts. The influence of salts on the physical and mechanical properties, as well as the effect on the microstructure of gypsum is also investigated. Some of the test specimens were kept in laboratory conditions, while others were stored in an environment with 100% humidity. The results are subsequently compared with the properties of the reference mixture without the salt additives. The effects of three different salts - one inorganic and two organic - were tested in the study. Through experiments, the positive influence of organic salts, especially on the microstructure of the mixtures, was clearly demonstrated, leading to significant effects on mechanical properties. Mixtures with the addition of organic salts exhibited strength values similar to those measured for the blank specimen. The negative effect of inorganic salt on the crystal structure of gypsum was also proven, which caused a significant reduction in strength.
