This work deals with the evaluation of the adhesion of injectable bone cements, potentially usable as a fully resorbable alternative to the standard non-degradable cements. An experimental evaluation of the adhesion of five differently modified bone cements to bone was performed, namely the cement itself based on a calcium phosphate, which was further modified with three different admixtures (antibiotics, polycaprolactone nanofibers and dopamine). Standard bone cement based on polymethylmethacrylate was used as a control material. The tests were performed on two types of implants made of titanium alloy Ti6Al4V ELI. One type was an implant with plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite coating, the other type was a 3D printed implant with a trabecular surface structure. The test implants were fixed ex vivo in porcine femurs for the time required for their hardening (72 hours). The methodology of the experiment was based on determining the maximum force required to break the adhesion in pull-out tests. Other evaluated parameters were shear strength, displacement at failure, work of adhesion and efficiency. The results show a lower degree of adhesion of the developing cements in compared with clinical used non resorbable standard, but the observed decrease in the initial healing phase may not be limiting for specific applications.
