This thesis explores the conceptual design of the energetical self-sufficiency of a detached house with a focus on space heating, while integrating renewable sources of energy. The starting point of this project is three proposed construction alternatives based off an architectural study. Attention is especially paid to exterior constructions. The first two alternatives use different timber elements, while the last one is uses calcium silicate masonry as a loadbearing structure. Construction parameters are processed in a heat balance simulation by using energetical models. The outputs of these models are the values of the average thermal transmittance coefficient and the annual energy required for space heating. Two variants of an energetical scheme are designed. The first variant uses a heat pump powered by a photovoltaic powerplant as the main source of space heating. The other variant simultaneously uses a wood boiler as the primary source of space heating and a solar collector as the secondary source of space heating. Values of the average thermal transmittance coefficient, the required annual energy for heating and hot water preparation, the annual production of electrical energy by the photovoltaic powerplant, the annual consumption of electrical energy by the heat pump, and the primary energy consumption are obtained using energetical calculations. Based off the results, the combination of one constructional alternative and one energetical variant is chosen. All alternatives are compared in terms of primary energy consumption. In the discussion, factors that can affect the final design are explored. The charts display the dependence of space heating requirements on the details of the construction process and interior air temperature. The discussion also shows the change of energy requirements when solar shading is considered.
