Concretes and cement-based composites are historically, and currently, broadly used building materials. Production of main binder substance, cement, is connected with consummation of high amount of nature resources and energy, coupled with the release of greenhouse gases. This work combines the theoretical knowledge and experimental investigation of the influence of active mineral admixtures on cement binder hydration on the bases of behavior changes of fresh mixes as well as of measured properties on hardened samples after especially 28 and 90 days of curing. The main objective of this work is to reveal the effect of active mineral admixtures on cement hydration and in this connection effectively replace part of cement binder in cement pastes and mortar mixes leading to the development of modified building material that would contribute to the energy efficiency of buildings. The result of the paper is the mix design of newly developed composite material.
