This thesis deals with the mechanical properties of soft contact lenses and their possible modification, with an emphasis on tensile and bending stresses. The work is concentrated on researchingminimal lense stiffness while still maintaining their mechanical stability and compatibility with the cornea, comparing the forces required to deform a predetermined shapeoflenses of different optical power anddesigning a devicefor the experimental tests of the dynamic stiffness of the contact lenses. Resultingmeasurements of forces required for a defined elongation ofthe specimen are used forthe evaluation of the modulus of elasticity oflense material. The proposed device has the capability to measuremechanical properties while accurately simulating straining of the sample in real usage.
