The task is to describe respiratory mechanics and its influence on efficiency of the mechanical ventilation. This work includes a description of the main methods used for assessing the mechanical parameters in common clinical practice, procedures used for assessing these parameters in patients on mechanical ventilation and also results of laboratory measurements by means of lung simulator ASL 5000. This simulator is connected to conventional and unconventional mechanical ventilator using different settings of the lung mechanics.
