This thesis focuses on the study of the effect of laser wavelength during endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) of varicose veins. Varicose veins are a serious health problem affecting up to 20-30% of the population. EVLA is one of the most widely used treatment methods. This paper deals with the design of experimental methodology to assess the effects of different wavelengths of laser radiation on tissue or suitable phantom. The experimental part was carried out at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the CTU and at the university Politecnico di Torino. A device for the controlled displacement of the laser fibre was created and experiments were performed on tissue phantoms (albumen, liver and veins). Different wavelengths (915-975 nm, 1470 nm and 1900-1940 nm) were used and their effect on absorption in tissues was studied. The results show that the 1900-1940 nm band introduces the highest absorption in the thin tissue layer.
