This thesis focuses on the precipitation of sigma phase at grain boundaries and the impact it has on fracture toughness of the HR3C steel. Specimens isothermally exposed for 20, 50, 100, 500, 5 000, 10 000, 15 000, 30 000 hours and data from three-point bending fracture toughness tests at selected time stamps were used for the experimental part. The changes in the microstructure were documented using optical light microscopy. Identification and quantification of present phases were carried out via scanning electron microscopy. In conclusion, the link between the precipitation of phases at grain boundaries and values of fracture toughness was described.
