The Diploma thesis addresses the issue of the Emergency Medical Services of Pardubice region (EMS PAR) preparedness for highly contagious diseases focusing on the procedures and equipment of EMS PAR. The issue of highly contagious diseases (HCD), their brief overview, possible ways of transmission, symptoms and biological safety levels is followed by a description of the equipment of basic agencies of the integrated rescue system with protective aids. This part subsequently comprises education, trainings of the employees, and cooperation with other agencies of the integrated rescue system within the field of highly contagious diseases. This is followed by the analysis of procedures and activities of EMS PAR within coping with a patient suspected of having a highly contagious disease. A SWOT analysis was prepared on the basis of the analysis of documentation of already completed responses to patients suspected of having a highly contagious disease and a semi-structured interview with the head of the crisis preparedness department. The analysis results in the identification of strengths and opportunities outweighing the weaknesses and threats to EMS PAR in case of caring of a patient suspected of having a highly contagious disease. The specially created HCD team and experience stemming from the Covid-19 pandemics were identified as the strengths, whilst a larger quantity of education and trainings and better protective equipment belong to opportunities. The weaknesses and threats are represented by the deficiency in using of protective equipment, its damage or general lack of protective equipment. Hypotheses were completely confirmed.
