The S3 detector represents a new and unique experiment in the field of neutrino physics. The thesis describes the detector of reactor antineutrinos, starting from the basic detector element - a polystyrene-based scintillator, through a two-channel pilot prototype to an 80-channel S3 detector with complex shielding and a DAQ system. The detector complies with rigorous safety standards for nuclear power plants, making it suitable for installation in a chamber directly beneath the reactor. The close proximity to the reactor allows for the study of neutrino properties with higher efficiency, such as the investigation of short-baseline neutrino oscillations and the verification of the sterile neutrino hypothesis. Moreover, the S3 detector can be used in applied research for real-time measurement of reactor power, determination of the isotopic composition of nuclear fuel and burnup degree, as well as performing tomography of the reactor.
