Abstract
Výsledkom prace je zmapovanie časovej vrstvy medzivojnového obdobia s jeho funkcionalistickými reprezentačnými stavbami tvariacich identitu mesta. Z analýzy vyplývá, že velkým prínosom pre urbanismuz bola súťaž na regulačný plán (1929), ktorý vytýčil rozvoj mesta na dsiatky rokov. Návrhy zachovali hodnotné stredoveké jadro aj s povodnými predmestiami neporušené. Koncom 30.rokov 20.storičia dochádza k odklonu od povodnej koncepcie Peňázovho plánu, pričom dobové politické rozodnutia ovplyvnili aj panorámu mesta. Po vojne (1945) sa vrátili k povodným plánom, kedy sa na ich aktualizácii podielal aj prof. B. Fuchs.
Study of urbanism and the image of Žilina in the period of 1918-1948 has been prepared with the objective of its further use in current and future city-forming process. Žilina was one of the main centers of Slovak modern architecture and with its building development it represented one of the most dynamic cities in Slovakia. The work out comes also include competition analysis of the "egulating Plan of Žilina City" 1929 which created a high standard. It was set rather high through the tender ideas of three known autors - J.Peňáz,V.Zákrejs and B.Fuchs. J.Peňáz in his winning design created the major compositional backbone of the city area with the principles to remain until now. Selected ideas of city decentralization are still valid and updated based on the "First republic" proposal.
