Abstract
The present work compares six administrative buildings in their energy efficiency. The first part describes key definitions and terms in the areas of facility and energy management. The subsequent theoretical part introduces the concept of benchmarking. The second part of the work describes buildings one to six that were examined in this study. The description includes detailed floor plans, number of floors, location, construction solutions, cardinal direction of the buildings, materials used for peripheral construction, facilities age, and operation. Visualizations of energy usage (electricity, heating, water) for year 2016 are presented for each of the buildings. Subsequently, the key part of the present work is presented, analyzing energy consumption of the buildings in 2016. The values are visualized on a square meter scale, a cubic meter scale, and a consumption-per-employee scale. The presented visualizations are complemented by total consumption values in each of the energy domains. The overarching goal of the present work is to provide a launching pad for the development of a broad-scale database collecting data on energy consumption of administrative buildings.
